Always sell on CASH; Do not lend birds

In every business, you will encounter customers who will tempt you to sell to them on credit, promising to settle the bill in a few days. But is it really wise to sell your birds on credit?Lets explore

Crazy deals

One day I was visited by a customer who claimed to have traveled for over 8 hours. She was very smartly dressed and sounded conversant with the birds industry. She showed to me some nice photos of the already completed structures that were awaiting occupations. She selected the birds she wanted. We made some calculations and the amount was decent.

As usual, i extended my after sale services, packaged the birds carefully in cartons and escorted her to the 'prado' that she had parked outside my compound. Her driver was waiting in the high end car. We placed the boxes carefully and I advised them to make sure the place was well ventilated.

My customer made a call to her husband who received and requested to talk to me. He was a happy man. He asked for my number and promised to send the cash in a few minutes. Now the trick came in. He called his wife again and from the face, i could see the wife somehow surprised. She told me to let them leave with the birds as the man on the other end was heading to the bank to wire the funds to me.

One thing told me to let them go. Another stronger feeling said NO.

I told them they can leave with the birds until I received my payment. It was a protracted argument. Finally, after waiting for nearly 3 hours, nothing was sent and I had to offload my birds and embarrassingly put them back into the cages.

Selling birds on credit is a sure way of losing your money. These are very sensitive creatures and anything can happen along the way and you lose your birds. Secondly, birds are sensitive to new environment especially where the handler is inexperienced. Next time adopt the CASH ONLY, unless you are ready to be "cleaned".
